The last week has been a whirl—not just doing podcasts and radio shows, but also being interviewed by a local newspaper and even writing pieces for La Bloga, the coolest Chicano/Latinx blog, and even a spec piece for a parenting mag (we’ll see how that is received!). I’ll put links here for all of them, and you can see which ones spark your particular interest.
Poulsbo continues to be the perfect spot to hang out, though we are now at a dock at the marina for a change, so we can more easily clean up the boat, stock up on water, and have an overdue laundry day. We were able to go up to the UPS store and take delivery of the first dozen promo copies of my new book. If you are a reviewer, or know of a reviewer who might be interested in my book, please message me, or drop a note in the comment box below. I got a wonderful review from Amy Waller, and I will drop that below as well.
First, I wanted to make sure to share this very cool site, Shepherd, where you get personal book recommendations from authors. I did a list of Baja Books that can transport you there, and they made up this very cool banner which I just had to share. Check it out!
I know some of these are available from Sunbelt Publications, and they also carry guidebooks and maps to Baja, as well as California geology books, so check there first!
Positive Talk Radio was a wonderful find—so many great topics and all of them designed to make you feel better about the world and the creative people in it. And I can definitely state that I have not laughed so much in one hour during in any other podcast or radio show.
I was interviewed by Kirk Boxleitner of the Port Townsend Leader, the local newspaper in PT. That will be out soon, so I will post a link when it is. I had a great time talking with “Girl Boner” radio host August McLaughlin, who also wrote the book Girl Boner; that show will be out in November. Stay tuned for more on that.
The podcast known as “Too Opinionated” was also a blast to do. We talked about everything from Tolkein books to Star Trek: Wrath of Khan. His podcast is always about an hour of nerd and pop culture heaven.
Even after the great blurbs by Judy Reeves, Leslie Johansen Nack, Cheri Kephardt and the rest, it was a thrill to get such a well-written review as this week’s by Amy Wallen.
It deserved to be a meme, so that I can refer to it in the leaner months to come. Marketing books is not for wimps. It turns out to be as hard as writing and editing.
And, speaking of marketing books, I was interviewed by my old pal and SCWC Pitch Witch partner, Marla Miller for her podcast about writers who are marketing their books, “AUTHORS & BOOK PROMOTION in the 21st Century.” What fun!
Here it is:
Enjoy and stay tuned for next week’s post about my official book launch, and my obligatory author unboxing their book video.
hasta pronto!
